About Us

Since our first ever match against UCL in 1978, KCL Women's Rugby Club has been a place for women and non-binary students at King's to make friends, pick up new skills, and have fun on and off the pitch. There is a strong community around the club, including an extensive alumni network, so if you're looking for somewhere to call home at King's, you should definitely come and check us out!

Training

We train up to 3 times a week at the King's Sports Grounds in Berrylands, New Malden, meeting at Waterloo station so that we can travel together. Trainings usually last about two hours, and we understand that everyone is a student and will have commitments such as deadlines, placements, and part-time jobs, so even if you aren't sure whether you can attend all sessions we would encourage you to still come along and try us out.

Our training schedule for 2023/24 hasn't been confirmed yet, but last year we trained on Mondays from 7-9pm, and Wednesdays and Sundays from 2-4pm (except for match days).

Matches

We compete in two leagues: the British University and Colleges Sport (BUCS) South Eastern Division 1 league, and the London Universities Sports League (LUSL). BUCS matches take place on Wednesdays, and LUSL matches take place on Sundays. View our upcoming fixtures here

Our two biggest events of the year take place each spring, when we compete against UCL in the London Varsity, and against GKT (the King's medics team) in the Macadam Cup. KCL are the current winners of both Varsity and Macadam.

Socials

Socials are an integral part of our club, and are a great way for new members to make friends. Every Wednesday we take part in KCL's sport night events at the Vault (the KCLSU bar), usually followed by a club night at Simmons Holborn. We also do regular joint socials with other clubs and societies both at KCL and other universities.

We also have regular sober socials for those who would prefer not to drink, such as movie nights, games nights, and taking part in the Thursday quiz nights at the Vault. In addition to these, every term we have special events such as team dinners, alumni events, and tour.

Fundraising

Raising money for charity is a really important part of our club, and we take part in a number of charity events throughout the year in support of causes that are close to our members. Last year these events included a 24-hour no sleep challenge raising money for Black Minds Matter, a sponsored walk of the Victoria line for ovarian cancer charity Ovacome, and two Student Fight Night events in support of testicular cancer charity the Oddballs Foundation.
